Please be aware of recent phone spoofing incidents

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a Spoofing Scam

Phishing Scam Prevention

If you receive an unsolicited text message, phone call or voicemail that appears to be from VCCU asking you to verify or provide your Online Banking login credentials or sensitive account information, this is a scam.

Reminder: VCCU staff will never ask you for your Online Banking login credentials, one-time passcodes or PIN.

Examples of recent Phishing attempts:

  • Caller ID Spoofing: You receive a call appearing to come from VCCU. The caller convinces you (the member) to provide your Online Banking credentials, after which unauthorized transfers are made from your checking or savings account.
  • Impersonation of VCCU Staff: A fraudster, posing as a VCCU employee claims your (the member's) account is compromised. You (the member) are instructed to move all funds to checking and to provide your Online Banking credentials.
  • Coordinated Call-Back Fraud: While the fraudster has you on the line, they call VCCU's Member Service Center pretending to be you (the member) and attempt to use your Online Banking credentials and SMS code to access your account. This is a sophisticated effort to intercept two-factor authentication in real time.

What to do: DO NOT click any links or give out any private information. Delete the message or hang up the phone and call us directly at 805.477.4000 to verify.
